Where it comes from

Nastro Azzurro means 'blue ribbon' — named, so the story goes, for the prize won by the Italian liner Rex for the fastest Atlantic crossing in the 1930s. Launched in the 1960s as Peroni's premium lager, it became Italy's most exported beer.

What you need

  • 1 bottle Peroni Nastro Azzurro, well chilled

How Larry builds it

  1. 01

    Serve cold. 4–6°C (39–43°F).

  2. 02

Pour with a head. Two fingers of foam.

  3. 03

Pair lightly. Seafood, salads and lighter pasta dishes suit its dry finish.

Larry’s rule: Peroni's crisper, slightly drier sibling. Larry's pick with a margherita.

Variations worth making

  • Peroni (red label)

    The classic everyday lager.

  • Nastro Azzurro 0.0

    The alcohol-free version.
