Crodino

The short answer

Crodino is Italy's original alcohol-free aperitivo — a bitter orange soda served over ice in a wine glass with an orange slice.

Bitter orange aperitivo, 0% ABV
Glass
Wine glass with ice

0% ABV

Where it comes from

Made in the village of Crodo in Piedmont since 1964, it was built for people who wanted the aperitivo ritual without the alcohol, decades before zero-proof became a category anywhere else.

What you need

  • 1 bottle (175 ml) Crodino, well chilled
  • Ice
  • 1 orange slice
  • Optional: 2 oz soda water for a longer drink

How Larry builds it

  1. 01

Chill hard. Crodino served warm is syrup. Fridge overnight.

  2. 02

Ice and pour. Fill the glass with ice and pour in one go.

  3. 03

Garnish. Orange slice, and a green olive if you want the Venetian look.

Larry’s rule: The original alcohol-free aperitivo. Tastes like a Spritz that went to bed early.

Variations worth making

  • Spritz Analcolico

Half Crodino, half sparkling grape juice, splash of soda.

  • Crodino Tonic

Half Crodino, half Indian tonic — drier and more bitter.

Questions people ask

Does Crodino contain alcohol?

No. It is 0% ABV, which is why it is the standard order for anyone sitting out the aperitivo hour in Italy.

What does Crodino taste like?

Bitter orange and herbs — close to an Aperol Spritz with the sweetness and the alcohol dialed back.
