How to play Pepper Crossing

Pepper Crossing is a free browser game in the Frogger style where you hop a bell pepper across five lanes of rolling sausages and a sauce river of drifting bread rafts to land in five plates at the top.

Pepper Crossing is Uncle Larry's crossing game. The bottom half of the board is a hot grill with five lanes of sausages rolling in alternating directions; the top half is a sauce river you can only cross by riding toasted bread rafts. Between them sits one safe counter strip where you can stop and plan.

It plays free in the browser with no download and no account. Each life runs on a timer, your best score is stored in your own browser, and every completed round of five plates makes the next round faster.

  1. 1Start a run. Press Start game, or the space bar, and the pepper appears on the safe strip at the bottom.
  2. 2Cross the grill. Hop one square at a time between the five sausage lanes. Touching a sausage costs a life, so wait in the gaps.
  3. 3Rest on the counter. The green strip in the middle is safe. Nothing moves through it, so use it to line up the river crossing.
  4. 4Ride the rafts. In the sauce river you must be standing on a bread raft. Falling in the sauce, or drifting off the edge of the board, costs a life.
  5. 5Fill all five plates. Land in an empty plate at the top to bank it. Fill all five plates to finish the round and start a faster one.

Scoring

  • Every new row of forward progress scores 10 points.
  • Landing in an empty plate scores 60 points plus 5 for each second left on the timer.
  • Filling all five plates completes the round and scores an 800-point bonus multiplied by the round number.
  • Your best score is kept in your own browser and shown as Best above the board.

Tips for a higher score

  • Cross the grill lane by lane. Step into a gap, stop, and let the next lane clear rather than sprinting.
  • Board a raft near its trailing edge so you have room to drift before it reaches the wall.
  • Fill the outside plates first; the centre lane is easiest to reach when the timer is short.

Questions about Pepper Crossing

Is Pepper Crossing free to play?
Yes. It runs in the browser with no download, account or payment.
What are the controls for Pepper Crossing?
Arrow keys are the main controls, WASD works as an alternative, and a touch direction pad appears on phones and tablets.
What is the difference between the sausages and the rafts?
Sausages roll on the dark grill lanes at the bottom and cost a life on contact. The pale bread rafts float on the purple sauce river at the top and are the only safe footing there.
How do you finish a round?
Land the pepper in each of the five plates along the top row. Once all five are filled the round restarts with faster lanes.
